It’s not every day that you are asked to make a pair of cufflinks for a film premiere but the 1st December 2014 just happened to be that day. We were contacted to make a custom pair of sterling silver Triceratops cufflinks for Dan Stevens (Matthew Crawley from Downton Abbey fame) in time for the London film premiere of Night at The Museum 3 on the 15th December. Dan’s character in the film tames the Triceratops so they would be the perfect gift. Our Head Designer Neil always relishes the opportunity to create a custom piece of jewellery and this piece was no different. The main challenge of this piece was in recreating the skull of the Triceratops and all its characteristics while still creating a cufflink that was beautiful. The cufflinks started life as a block of silver which is then shaped by using small files. After a few hours we could start to see the beginning of the Triceratops take shape. Over the next few days the cufflinks were further shaped, horns attached, markings added to the face and then finally polished. These beautiful cufflinks were now complete and ready to be sent to the UK in time for the premiere. All of our jewellery is handmade in South Africa in our Johannesburg workshop and each piece is made with the utmost care and attention.
