In the last blog post we looked at the round brilliant and princess cut diamond shapes for handcrafted engagement rings. Here we take a look at other more popular cuts.
Oval cut diamonds are also very popular for engagement rings as they have a beautiful brilliance that's similar to a round diamond and their length can accentuate long, slender fingers. Oval diamonds have the added advantage of an elongated shape, which can create the illusion of greater size.
An oval diamond is cut in the same way as a round diamond. Even though a round diamond has the most brilliance of all of the diamond cuts an oval comes a very close second. Oval diamond engagement rings are ideal if you love the brilliance of a round diamond but are looking for a ring which is a little different.
While not necessarily a traditional choice, the emerald cut can make a beautiful handcrafted engagement ring. It's a rectangular shaped cut with cut corners and large, flat facets that resemble steps and act like mirrors. Emeralds are not as good as brilliant cuts at concealing their flaws. Color and inclusions are much more visible, therefore a higher clarity and color grade is recommended for Emeralds. An emerald cut diamond generally cost less than a round brilliant so you can buy a larger stone for your money.
The cushion cut diamond combines a square cut with rounded corners which resembles a pillow, hence the name. While generally less brilliant than round brilliant diamonds, cushion cut diamonds often have better fire, (the light which reflects out of a diamond) which is part of their appeal. Today, cushion cut handcrafted diamond engagement rings are typically accompanied by a diamond halo. The diamond halo makes the diamond look even more beautiful
The Radiant cut combines the elegance of the Emerald cut diamond with the brilliance of the Round.
Heart. The Radiant cut is also a very forgiving cut as it hides inclusions more efficiently than other shapes and has a real wow factor when chosen for an engagement ring.
